Most wineries in California purchase at least some of their grapes from other growers, but Retzlaff wines are made exclusively from grapes grown organically in the family's own vineyards. An emphasis is placed on producing wines that reflect the terroir of the region, and to that end no fertilizers, insecticides or herbicides are used on the vines. Retzlaff has been making fine estate wines for 25 years, and recently opened a wine boutique in downtown Livermore at the historic Blacksmith Square.
